LMMS tutorial on how to add instruments, melody and drums.
When you first open LMMS, there are 4 windows. Close FX-Mixer and Controller Rack, you will not need these in this tutorial.
To delete an extra instrument/track:
- Click the
icon to the left of an instrument/track.
- Click Remove this track.

Adding instruments:
- Click the
icon in the left menu. - Click
beside Triple Oscillator. - Click-and-hold on an instrument to hear what it sounds like.
- When you find one you like, double-click the instrument to add it to the Beat+Bassline Editor.
Opening the Piano-Roll:
- In the Beat+Bassline Editor, right-click the area to the right of the PAN knob. Click Open in piano-roll.

Using the Piano-Roll:
- Left-click to add a note.
- Right-click to delete a note.
- Hold-left-click on the end of a note to change note-length. (drag horizontally)
- Click
to loop your melody. - Click
to stop the loop.
Making a melody:
- Start with longer notes, make a simple melody.

- Do small changes, maybe split the long notes into more shorter notes.

- Add more notes to fill spaces. Try to use piano keys that already have notes so that the melody will sound in tune.

Adding drums:
- Click the
icon in the left menu. - Click
beside drums. - Double-click a sample to add it to the Beat+Bassline Editor. Add 2 or 3 samples.
- Lets use the drums in a different track, look at the Song-Editor window. Click
to add a new track. Click the new track to select it (your melody should disappear from the Beat+Bassline Editor window)
Using the Beat+Bassline Editor:
- Left-click to add a hit.
- Left-click to delete a hit.
Making a drum beat:
- Add a kick every 8 steps or so.
- Add other drum hits between kicks.
Using the Song-Editor:
- Left-click to add a loop.
- Right-click then click Delete to remove a loop.
Putting the song together:
- Look at the song editor, add several loops beside the melody track.
- Add several loops beside the drum track.

- Press
in the Song-Editor to listen.
