LMMS tutorial on how to sidechain using the FX-Mixer and a peak controller.
Create a melody and add a kick drum:
- Create a melody with some long notes.

- Add a kick every 4 beats.

Setting up the FX-Mixer:
- Link the instrument to FX 1:
- Go to the Beat+Bassline Editor and click the instrument to open the General Settings menu.

- Change FX CHNL to 1:

- Go to the Beat+Bassline Editor and click the instrument to open the General Settings menu.
- Link the kick drum to FX 2.:
- Open the kick General Settings menu.
- Change FX CHNL to 2:

- Open the FX-Mixer by clicking show/hide FX-Mixer:
(F9). - Select FX 2 then click the Add effect button on the right side of the mixer:

- Scroll down near the bottom, select Peak Controller then click Add.

- Right click on FX Fader 1 then left click Connect to Controller...

- Click the circle beside USER CONTROLLER to make it green, then make sure Controller 1 is selected in the submenu. Click OK.

- Play the song, the FX 1 volume fader should move up and down during the kick drum.
- Select FX 1 then click the Peak Controller Controls button, a window should pop up.

- Lower the AMT to less then 1/4, you may want to increase or decrease the BASE knob a bit.

- Thats it, you should now know how to sidechain in LMMS! Play your song, the main instrument volume should lower everytime a kick drum is played.
